Brrrr! It’s getting cold here and I’m starting to notice some changes in my body to this cold, especially on my skin!
For the last week, my skin has broken out, become uneven (tone wise), and has felt ‘uncomfortable’.
I’ve narrowed this change down to a few things that I have been doing wrong. It’s likely that you are doing the same!
So your skin may have gotten worse due to:
Not drinking enough water!
In winter one of the last things we feel like doing is drinking water, and this is a major issue! By not flushing out toxins through consistent hydration we are allowing the pores on our skin to be toxic and clogged!
To drink enough water try drinking lots of tea (warming AND hydrating!), making smoothies, making juices, eating lots of fruit, and keeping a water bottle (preferably reusable and BPA free) on hand to take little sips throughout the day!
You could also be moisturising too much!
I know this seems ridiculous and the complete opposite of what I should be saying, but in winter people slap on moisturiser like there’s no tomorrow and this over compensates for the natural oils that your body creates. This makes your skin feel too oily and leads to breakouts and irritations. Try to keep your moisturising to once every couple of days and your skin should feel silky smooth and oil free!
Perhaps you’re also having showers at a temperature that is too hot! I know that feeling. You’ve been out all day in the freezing cold and all you want to do is go home and have a steaming hot shower…but it dries your skin out! The hot temperature draws all the moisture out of your skin leaving it gasping for sustenance, some moisture! It’s best to have slightly cooler showers and moisturise less than have boiling hot showers and then slap on tonnes of moisturiser!
You may even be too stressed! When you’re stressed your whole body suffers and like they say, your skin is a mirror to your internal health! Take some time out to spread some candles around, make a cup of herbal tea, and then sit down and meditate. Just 10 minutes a day can have a major impact on your sleep, morning routine and weekly agenda!
I hope these suggestions were useful! Feel free to send me a comment on any skin worries you have!
