I absolutely ADORE everything about coconut.
It’s taste, its appearance, it’s texture, it’s health benefits…even the environment it grows in!
And because I love it so much, I’m dedicating an entire blog post to it and its benefits for you because although its in the media as a magical ingredient, not many people know the specific benefits it provides.
Why is coconut so good for you anyways?
- scientists have recently claimed that it can prevent heart disease and Alzheimer’s!
- increase your energy
- assists in weight loss
- reduces your cholesterol
- stabilises your insulin levels
- boosts your metabolism
Coconuts can also create a wide array of products including: coconut oil, coconut cream, coconut butter, shredded coconut, coconut sugar, coconut flour, and coconut water.
They all benefit the body in different ways and at different times but I have found (from personal experience) that natural (you can find plenty of artificially flavoured versions) coconut water is a fantastic pre and/or post workout drink because it is super dense in potassium which helps in the rehydration process.
It’s also fantastic to bake with as both coconut flour and coconut sugar seamlessly replace traditionally unhealthy flours and sugar.
It is also an up and coming beauty product!
Warming a small amount of coconut oil in your hands and then rubbing it on your face elbows, hands, and feet soothes all skin irritations and deeply moisturises! It can also be used as a scalp treatment, a cuticle butter, a lip balm, and a sun burn remedy!
And as a fun fact, hermit crabs love it! My brother has one and he goes berserk for it! Haha!!
